Horns

The horns provide the warm sound in the middle of the band. Four places make up the horn section, one Flugel Horn (B-flat) and three Tenor Horns (E-flat).

JENNY IRELAND - Solo Horn

Jenny joined the band back in 1988 on cornet having played for her local band since the age of 8. She started on 2nd cornet and worked her way up to the position of 2nd man down for a number of years, even doing a stint on principal whilst Martin Buss conducted the band. She joined Horsham band in 2000 as 2nd man down and progressed to principal at Hangleton band in 2002.

In 2003 Jenny decided to hang up her cornet after 21 years and take up the tenor horn, taking the position of Solo Horn at Brighton. She is married to Jon Ireland who has played with the band over a number of years on percussion and also helps out with his compering skills at contests and concerts.

JENNIFER RANGER - First Horn

Jenny has been in the band for over 5 years after moving down south from Derbyshire. She is currently working at AMEX putting her linguistic skills into use. For all those girls who dream about Firemen, you should be very jealous, as her partner Chris is a fireman at the Preston Circus station.

JENNY MARTIN - Second Horn

The third Jenny in the band makes for a full Jenny contingent of the Horn section! We all feel sorry for Richard! Jenny took up the baritone at the age of 11 playing in her school band and Northamptonshire's training brass band under Adele Sellers. Jenny joined the band on 2nd horn in 2005 after an 8 year break from the brass banding world. Jenny is currently studying for a post graduate qualification in Occupational Therapy.
