Contests
One of the biggest thrills of playing in a Brass Band is when the announcer stands on the stage at the end of a contest to read out the results, and it is your band that has won. Those few minutes of celebration make the hours of practice, rehearsals and waiting around at the contest all worthwhile. Of course not everyone can win at every contest but Brighton have had a fair share of success.
We compete in both the National Contests and local SCABA (Southern Counties Amateur Band Association) Contests. Over the past 10 years the band have progressed from the 4th Section to our current placing in the 2nd Section locally (SCABA) and 3rd Section nationally.
The band's record has included winning the London & South East Counties area heats of the National Championships twice and competing in the finals on five separate occasions. The local SCABA contests have also been successful for Brighton with no fewer than four wins at the spring contest and one at the autumn contest.
We also take part in the SCABA Entertainment Contest and have finished in the top three a total of 7 times ! We have certainly made an impact with our mixture of music and visual entertainment. Competing in a class against higher section bands makes the results even more remarkable.
